Be Present And Peaceful
In India, a man came to me and said, “I want to meditate, I feel very depressed, I feel life is Finished for me, I want to die, I want to commit suicide. But before dying, before I finish, I want to give a chance to myself, I want to meditate. I want to give a chance to you! Do something, I’m anyway going to be finished, now you do something. If you do well, I will be alive. If you don’t do well, I will be dead.” I knew that the person was not going to die. If you really want to die, you will die, you will not come to me and give me a chance. If he can give me a chance, then he can give another chance to somebody else also.
I said, “I do not know anything about you but whatever you are doing, whatever you are thinking, you are always thinking of past, forget about that. Now you are here, you want to die, look in the torch, look in my light and be dead. And when I blow you, you are awake and from there on, you start your new life. Good?” He agreed. It felt very good to him, truly. I told him, “You can also have a name from me. I can give you a new name because that would mean something more to you.” He was very excited and happy “Yes! Yes, a new name!” I said, “You can take a name, Amar (means immortal).” He felt very happy and blessed. Then he came just the next day, not long, and he told, “I am very anxious, I feel so wonderful, the Flowers in ashram are so beautiful, the man who is watering is doing it with grace, I love this all. The sun is shining so bright. It makes me feel very happy, I’m very much in love with the life, and I cannot leave this life. It is so beautiful, I am very anxious.”
I told him “Yesterday, when you came you were depressed. I told it will go away, you will be ne. Today you have come and you are very anxious, and I tell you the same, it will go away.” It is very simple. If you are depressed, you are in past. If you are anxious, you are in future but when you are in present, you are just peaceful.” I told him to go and broom the ashram, and to do it for not just one day but every day. And I want to tell you that for last six years, he has been brooming. He gets up at 3’o clock and from three to 6’o clock, before everybody gets up, he is just brooming and brooming, cleaning every path and he is very happy. He knows ‘the present’ now.
